Whilst laminates are now playing an ever more important role in timber engineered construction, there are certain projects that still incorporate traditional materials such as Oak and Pine, and we have extensive experience of the structural behaviour of natural woods such as Green Oak.
Our work involving the use of large section timber, includes both traditional and contemporary construction and framing, and we understand the design issues of traditional carpentry including the problem of shrinkage in Green Timber.
We have also worked on restoration and complementary traditional wood finish projects, can produce designs and working drawings, or work from a technical brief supplied by your architects and engineers. We can also use our manufacturing and joinery skills to both fabricate and install for you.
Here are some of the uses for our timber engineered products:
Glulam (glued laminated timber), is an engineered wood product which is produced from singular pieces of stress graded and seasoned timber known as laminates. Glulam originated around 1900, and is now in use the world over. It is used for both structural and decorative applications.
The manufacturing process results in laminates which are consistently stronger than solid timber due to the reduction in the size and number of natural defects. Significantly larger pieces of timber can be produced than would otherwise be possible with traditional solid sawn timber.
Glulam can also be curved or shaped to produce architecturally interesting features, this is why it has become a popular alternative to other forms of timber engineering.
We can provide full design and structural calculations for any of our projects using Glulam, and we can also work from a supplied specification or produce full drawings to manufacture from. We can supply direct to your fabricators or complete this assembly work for you.
